MARE TUUM #1

Mare Tuum is a transnational, collaborative platform bringing together emerging artists and researchers from four European institutions: Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (Budapest), the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (Antwerp), LCI Barcelona – School of Design and Visual Arts, and Hochschule Bielefeld – University of Applied Sciences and Arts. Developed within the Erasmus+ framework, the project builds a living network of shared practices, methodologies, and situated forms of knowledge that extends well beyond conventional institutional exchange.

Look at This!

We are a group of four photographers who have combined our documentary and staged photography practices to create a series of visual observations through our project, “Look at this!” Each day, we recorded glimpses of moments unfolding on the island of Lanzarote, then came together to collaboratively stage a single image.

We noticed that the island is often used as a backdrop for fashion and commercial shoots, so we decided to lean into that idea and have some fun with it in our photos. Sometimes we invite locals to join in, and this time we included them in the shoot as a way to keep their presence an integral part of the island.

By blending real moments with staged scenes and involving the island’s people, “Look at this!” challenges how we see and understand a place—reminding us that every view is shaped by who is behind the camera and who is in front of it.
