This photographic project explores the intimate relationship between the human body and nature, by combining the human form with the rugged landscape of Lanzarote. Through the exposure of bare skin to the raw elements of nature – sharp edges, wind, weather, stormy seas, sand, and rocks – the images aim to capture the primal connection between human and earth.
The project is a visual exploration of the sensation of "skin on skin“ – the direct experience of textures, curves, temperatures, and contrasts in the environment. The naked body, in this context, becomes a vessel for sensing and perceiving nature in its most unfiltered form. Despite the discomfort of harsh conditions, the act of being present in the moment, exposed and vulnerable, seeks to reconnect the individual with the world around her. It is a journey of becoming one with nature, even while acknowledging the inherent distance of being an outsider, a foreign element in this vast, untamed landscape.
The photographs are captured on analog film, with some images containing (un)intentional exposure and development errors. These imperfections mirror the unpredictable and uncontrollable aspects of nature itself – each frame is unique, unrepeatable, and an individual testament to the moment. Just as nature does not follow a set course, neither does the outcome of these images.
The photographer is not in complete control; they can only adapt, observe, and embrace the inherent beauty of the process. Ultimately, this project is a mindful meditation on presence, vulnerability and acceptance. It invites viewers to witness the delicate balance between human and nature, finding comfort in the rawness, unpredictability, and imperfections of both.
