This project is an approach to the connection between the people and the sea in Lanzarote. Using cyanotypes and portraits, I search for the visible and invisible traces that water leaves on paper and bodies.
The cyanotypes are memories of the sea, an echo of its shapes and movements. I work with objects found in the ocean and try to let the water itself become the medium. Exposed by the sun and developed with seawater, fleeting maps emerge on the blue papers - islands of light and shadow, fragments of a constantly changing archive whose objects cannot be recognised. What remains is a vague association with the sea, a blue space.
I meet the people I portray on various beaches on the island: Playa de Famara, Playa de Janubio, Playa de Papagayo, Playa de Los Caletones. All of them are connected to the sea in different ways. Some are existentially dependent on the water, others are seeking freedom in the sea, whether on surfboards or in silence.
This project is a personal search for closeness - my own approach to the sea, to the people of Lanzarote and everything that exists in between.
